Due:
This is it. The end of the year assignment. We made it, kids. I can see the end of the finish line near... please complete this by Wednesday June 10th. Be honest and reflective!
Due:
Good morning students. In a "perfect world," we would have likely been having our final exam review this week. Instead, I'm asking for your reflection and review on the past few days. This will count as today's classwork.
Due:
Good morning students. Over the last few days, I'm sure you have learned of George Floyd, a black man who brutally lost his life at the hands of a white police officer. For the past six days, protests and riots have erupted in dozens of cities across the country. Racial tensions are at an all time high, and all in the midst of a global pandemic.
How does all of this make you feel and what kind of changes do you think we need in this world and/or our community?
I encourage you to read through your classmates responses and listen to and comment on what each other has to say. This is an important debate in a crucial moment in our history and every single one of you has a voice that should be heard and used, so speak up.

Attached are two interesting poems for you to read and compare. Despite the poems being written 70 years apart, both poets express similar thoughts on the world around them. Both poems contain various examples of imagery, figurative language, and most importantly there is an undeniably strong theme or main idea.
1.) "Keeping Quiet" by Pablo Neruda- there is also an audio attached for you to listen as you read.
2.) "In the Time of Pandemic" by Kitty O'Meara
Please read them both carefully, more than once if necessary and make notations (or highlights) as needed. When done, answer the questions attached in as much detail and support as possible.
This will be one of our last wrap up assignments for the year so make sure to let all your efforts and capabilities shine through. Good luck and I hope you enjoy reading these poems as much as I do.

Good morning! I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend. Please be sure to submit your "High School Training Ground" poem analysis assignment that is DUE TODAY.
Music has always been a universal comfort for everyone, perhaps now more than ever. Today, we will create a collaborative space to share some of our favorite musical talents. After all, music is simply another form of poetry, called lyrical poetry. Below please ADD ONE EXAMPLE OF LYRICAL POETRY OF YOUR CHOOSING. IT CAN BE A SONG, ALBUM, OR ENTIRE PLAYLIST that you would like to share and recommend to the class. This will be counted as classwork!
My selection is attached below. I was recently introduced to the artist, Jessie Reyez. She just released a new album and I happen to think it's great. Here's one of her newest songs for your listening pleasure. I'm excited to see what you all add to this list! Any genre of music or time period is acceptable. Please do your best to choose an example that is school appropriate!

Happy Friday! It is Memorial Day Weekend and in a "perfect" world, our seniors would be attending prom tonight. It has been 2 months and 2 weeks since we've last been in class together. This weekend, Governor Murphy is reopening the Jersey Shore, but under VERY strict regulations, for now. What are your thoughts on New Jersey beginning to open back up again? Provide reasoning for your position.
*1-3 sentences will suffice (more is always fine if you have more to say).
*Your answer WILL be visible to classmates.
*I encourage you to reply/comment to your peers. It'll be EXTRA CREDIT, and who doesn't love that?!
*I'm attaching an article that is NOT mandatory to read in order to answer this question. However, (if you're interested) it's a very quick read with A LOT of interesting and pertinent information about what is happening in NJ right now. To be honest, it's something you should all care to know about. Always stay informed... or as the kids say, woke.
***ALSO- We technically have Monday off, so your Poem Analysis assignment on "High School Training Ground" (posted on May 19th) will be DUE ON TUESDAY! Stay safe and have a great weekend everyone!
