Congratulations to Chrissalina Colon for winning the 2021 JC Fire Department Patch Design Contest
Congratulations to Chrissalina Colon, senior at James J. Ferris High School, on winning the Jersey City Fire
Department Patch Design Contest. Students in grades 9-12 participated in this digital design contest, held in
commemoration of the department’s 150th Anniversary. Fire Department personnel were invited to take part in a
virtual, blind adjudication, under the command of Chief Steven McGill. Each of the 52 student submissions
considered can be viewed using this link. Chrissalina’s design (below) features an American flag, Dalmatian, and
fire apparatus within a red maltese cross adorned with lettering indicating the 150th Anniversary celebration. The
patch will be made into a decal and placed on every fire apparatus! An unveiling is being planned for May.
