Athletic Compliance and Eligibility
Academic Eligibility Requirements
All Ferris High School student-athletes must meet the academic eligibility standards established by the Jersey City Board of Education and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) in order to participate in interscholastic athletics.
Credit Requirements
Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors
- To be eligible for Fall and Winter sports, students must have earned at least 30 credits during the previous academic year.
- To be eligible for Spring sports, students must earn at least 15 credits during the first two marking periods of the current school year.
- Any student who fails two or more subjects during the 1st and 2nd marking periods will be ineligible to begin the Spring season.
- Ineligible students may practice but are not permitted to participate in games. Eligibility may be regained if the student is passing all courses at the conclusion of the 3rd marking period.
Freshmen
- Freshmen are eligible to participate in Fall and Winter sports.

Alternative School Eligibility Requirements
CL 3: Vocational / Technical High Schools & Public Academies
If a full-time student attends a Vocational/Technical High School or Public Academy that does not offer a particular sport, the student may participate in that sport at their sending school, provided:
- Both school principals approve the arrangement
- This applies regardless of the number of sports programs offered at the vocational/technical or public academy
CL 5: Charter Schools
If a full-time student attends a Charter School that does not offer a particular sport, the student may participate in that sport at their school of residence, provided:
- Both school principals approve the arrangement
- This applies regardless of the number of sports programs offered at the charter school
