ESL II Assignments

This week you will write your short story. It must include information on the characters and setting you described during week 9 and 10. Your story must be at least four paragraphs long and have a solid beginning, middle, and end.

This week you will work on the setting for your story. The setting focuses on where the story takes place. Please write one or two paragraphs describing where your story takes place. Include information on the year (is it recent or in the past), the location, and what certain things look like. This can influence your writing so take your time and be thorough.

On a Google Doc, start planning at least three characters for your fictional story. Tell these things about the characters:
1. Their names
2. What they look like
3. What their personalities are
4. Three words that best describe them
5. Include a picture of what they look like

Before you begin writing your story, it's important to plan your writing. Use the graphic organizer in the link attached to this as a guide, and create your organizer in Google Docs. Your goal for this assignment is to cover the 5Ws and H about the story you are writing. I am looking for one or two sentences for each part.

This week we are writing fiction (not true) stories. The story can be about anything you like. For today, please create the title page. On a Google Doc, come up with the title for your story and include some pictures to give an idea of what the setting is.

Similes use words "like" and "as" to make comparisons. For this week, please complete the attached worksheet on a Google Doc.

Reread the two articles from last week. Then, write a four paragraph essay about if you think a four day school week is a good idea or not. You must use three pieces of evidence from the articles to support your opinion.

Read the attached article. Find these ten vocabulary words in the article and write their original sentences, then their definitions in a Google Doc:

8. Specifically

10. Overhead

Your quiz will be posted on Friday.

Read the website attached to this assignment, then write the definition and then an original sentence with these ten words from the website:

2. Refreshment
3. Reduce
4. Surveyed
5. Colossal
6. Benefit
7. Satisfactory
8. Constructive
9. Detrimental
10. Perseverance

There will be a quiz on these words on Friday.

After understanding the usage of “Comparative and Superlative “ adjectives, the students will write two paragraphs comparing two members of their family based on their Internal and External Character traits.

For example: My mom is loud. She is short, too. My dad is tall. He is loud, too.

Please review the website on this assignment for details on comparative and superlative sentences. Then, write 10 sentences comparing objects in your home.
For example: My phone is smaller than my television.

Part Two of this week's assignment will be posted on Wednesday morning.

Read the attachment "I Go Along," then write a summary of the story. After that, answer critical thinking questions 2, 3, 4, and 5. We will discuss the work during our zoom meetings if you have any questions.

Please read the attached poem.
Then, answer the comprehension questions that are on the side of the story in the book. (100 points for classwork)

Imagine you have a friend who needs advice on which sport they should play. Write a paragraph with at least 3 imperatives telling them which sport they should play and why.

Imagine you won a million dollars. What would you do with it? Would you spend it all or save it? Give it to people?

For your exam, please write a four paragraph essay about your dream life in the USA. You must write in future simple tense. You can write about:
1. Where you want to go to college/what you want to study.
2. The career you want to have.
3. Where you want to live.
4. Hobbies/sports you want to do.
5. Anything else!

Remember - 5 sentences in a paragraph. Do not try to copy from a website, you will be caught and receive a zero!
